DIY Door Hanger

This little crafty mash-up is really inspired by two different crafts I have found.

Nap Time Crafters created this adorable door hanger for Halloween.

I love the idea of both, so I decided to combine them.

First, I typed up the saying, chose a font and printed it out to use as a template.  Then I gathered up some black felt, scissors, and pins.

Next, I started cutting out the letter template and then using that to cut the felt.  I used the pins to secure the paper letter onto the felt.

Here are all my letters cut out and ready to go!  They are not perfect by far, but I am going for a shabby chic kind of look. ;)

Next, I grabbed 3 embroidery hoops of equal size and I grabbed this cool vintage fabric from my fabric stash.  Then, I secured the fabric in the embroidery hoop.

Before I started stitching, I tried to lay out the letters and space them where I wanted them to go.

For stitching, I decided to hand stitch the letters using black embroidery floss.  Easy peasy.

Once the letters were stitched on, I trimmed off the excess fabric from the embroidery hoops and used a hot glue gun to secure them together.  Then I used a ribbon for hanging.

Oh, and by the way.  While I was crafting, this is what Miss Maggie Mae was doing.

Snoozin' away...what a life!

I think Tom would say All you need is love and a CAT, not a silly gross dog!! I like the fact that you sewed the letters on rather then gluing them on, I am sure it looks more finished that way. I think I am gonna try the Halloween one!

  3. Really adorable, like how you grouped them in 3's. I also liked that you sewed them on, they do have more of a finished look. These could work in so many different seasons. So glad you shared your creative inspiration with Sundays' Best - you've helped to make it a great party!

  4. you are so right on about all you need is love and a dog. ......my shepherd I had to put down then my husband said no more dogs.I'm almost 60 at the time (and had never been without a dog in my life except when I graduated from school and got married 5 yrs later) I wanted a Shih Tzu, Hubby said no more dogs!!!! we are going to travel wile we are sitting at our lake home freezing in the winter.By Spring I just was so depressed "I said we have to have some Joy in our lives here"."I'm getting a dog" He said "no" and I just persisted. He was mad at meand slept one the couch. We never fight and rarely have a disagreement but I didn't care.I going to get a puppy. So by my birthday in April I had been looking at puppy finder on the internet.I found a 4 mo old female ShihTzu puppy someone was selling. The Breeders friend could not keep her. She was chocolate and white with brown eyes. I went to look at her her name was "Coochie Coo". we were really struggling for money my friend lent me 250 and I put in some money and brought her home the next day.She was born on Christmas Day and has been a bundle of joy ever since.so now you see how I relate to Love and a DOG.
