Glass Owl Jar

Oh, Ohio flea markets, you have been a source of joy this summer!  On our way back to North Carolina, we stopped in Buffalo, Ohio.  My mom and dad had a tent set up there and it was a good chance to get out, stretch, see them one more time, and SHOP!  Also, with all the storms that had come through and with gas apocalypse on the way up, we wanted to gas up in southern Ohio, so we didn't have to stop AT ALL in West Virginia.

We parked in the front of the flea market and were walking to the back where my mom and dad were.  Maggie was happily plodding along enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells.  I knew we couldn't stay all that long, so as we were walking to see my parents I am using my highly trained bargain hunting eyes.  All of a sudden, I literally stop in my tracks.  SHUT UP!  Right in front of me, standing about 2 feet tall is a glass owl jar with a sticker on it that says "make offer."  As I try to control my breathing, I take a closer look and see the tag says $30.  In my head, I am thinking I will pay $30, but $20 would be even better.  So, I ask the lady what she will take and she says $20.  Um.....SOLD!

So we continue on our way to see my parents.  I am proud as a peacock carrying this giant owl jar.  My mom sees us and is laughing.  "And you found something,"  she says.  Of course I did mom, you trained me well!  This glorious owl now lives in North Carolina and holds our spare change.

When I got home, I did some research to see where this little piece of heaven came from.  On the bottom, it says "The Wise Old Owl."  I found out this it is actually a gum display from somewhere between the 1940s and 1960s.  At one point, it had a cork lid.  I was super excited when I actually found another one on sale on eBay.  Right now, the price is at $119.99.  Um...glad I got mine for $20.
